created vegetation, plants and trees etc. He did so with purposed reproduction. (Gen.1:11-13) Everything reproduces after its own kind. Carrots always reproduce carrots. If we plant an apple seed we're always assured of getting an apple tree.
In the 1960s in the Masada fortress on the edge of the Dead Sea in Israel they discovered "Date seeds" that were scientifically dated to be about 2000 years old. Recently, three were planted in soil and one germinated. Amazing, yet true! The ability for that "Date seed" to reproduce after its own kind was locked within its self for all those years, yet when planted it reproduced. The life of the Date was in the seed. The power to reproduce after its own kind was locked within the seed.
God often uses the natural to teach us the spiritual. There's a lot we can learn about spiritual life in Christ by observing the seed and its reproduction. The reproductive powers (life) are in the seed.
There's a very basic yet powerful principle being demonstrated here. The Date seed produced a Date tree. Now let's look at the Scriptures. Gal 3:16 - The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say "and to seeds," meaning many people, but "and to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ. (NIV) The Seed, the spiritual SEED is Christ. Being the Seed of God He then has the power of to reproduce after His own kind.
When the Seed is planted within the human heart (spirit) a "new creation" is birthed. 2 Cor. 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)
What is our vision? How do we perceive our "Born Again" experience? Is the "new self" new or is it a modified version of the "old self"? Let's look at the Seed. The Seed is Christ and Christ is in the Born Again Believer. The Seed is in you and the Seed has ALL the "spiritual DNA" of Jesus Christ. This is why the Holy Spirit inspired the Apostle Paul to write Col. 1:27. "Christ in you the hope of glory". What is our hope of experiencing God's glory in our life? Christ in us! It's all about Him. It's all about the dynamics of Jesus life. The Seed was planted in us when we received Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. Now the Seed which produces after its own kind grows into maturity.
The "new self" has an image a special "spiritual DNA". What should we expect? Eph. 4:24 gives an absolutely vivid picture of our spiritual DNA. "... the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." The true "Born Again" Believer cannot honestly say, "I'm only human". The Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ is resident within us. Our spiritual potential is that of Christ-likeness. As we see this in the light of TRUTH it will set us free. (Jn. 8:32) New Covenant Christianity isn't about trying harder but rather trusting more. "...the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
